BIG MONASH FODMAP APP UPDATE

Last week, Monash University published a major update in the Monash FODMAP app. They retested several foods, and the results were quite surprising.

For some foods, it had been quite a while since they were last tested. Upon retesting, it turned out that they contained a different FODMAP group than previously thought, or even multiple FODMAP groups, where it was previously believed they contained only one.

This might sound a bit strange, but we’re talking about natural products here, and there are various factors that can influence the FODMAP content of a food. For example, how it's grown and processed.

One fun change: you can now eat a larger amount of cauliflower during the elimination phase. Also, beets are now lower in FODMAPs. Great news!

You can read Monash’s full blog post about the update here.

CHANGES TO THE REINTRODUCTION PHASE

Because several foods turned out to contain different FODMAP groups than previously known, this also affects the reintroduction phase.

Many of the foods that were used to test specific FODMAP groups have now changed.

This can be frustrating if you’ve just completed or are in the middle of your reintroduction phase. Even if you finished reintroducing a while ago, you might have some questions about this.

I’ve updated my blog post on the reintroduction phase with all the new information, including what to do if you’ve recently tested using the "old" foods.

If you have any more questions about this, feel free to reply to this email.

And if there are any recipes you’d love to see on my blog, definitely let me know!

Have a nice day!

Lots of love,

Karlijn
